Week 6, Day 5 - Crying Off Sick
This is the reason I'm not running today:
My left hip hurts really badly. Funnily enough the pain usually goes away when I start running but it's just too bad today - it even hurts to stand on the leg. Any suggestions as to what it might be/what to do about it will be greatly received :-)

I'm hesitant to give any kind of advice unless I'm asked. But you asked so for what it's worth:
I don't know about your specific pain but I've noticed on thing about your training. You really like to go fast, and like ALL THE TIME!!! A new runner's cardiovascular fitness will progress much faster than musculoskeletal fitness. Not only are your heart and your lungs and your muscle fibers going through changes but so are your bones, tendons, and ligaments. This is the reason so many have suggested to me that I run mostly easy miles and be conservative with stuff like hill work or speed work. These "harder" workouts put a lot of stress on your musculoskeletal system.
Now, you are very young and not overweight so you have a lot going for you. You could probably get away with a lot more than I could. But take some of your runs easy. In fact, I would say, until your complete this program, take all of your runs easy. Maybe once a week or at the end of a workout, if you want to pick up the pace, then do so. But the harder your run, the longer your stride, the more of a pounding your body is taking.
This is just my opinion and you should really take my lack of experience seriously. I may be totally off base so take it with a grain of salt.
You're doing awesome!! Run, recover, run, recover!!! Isn't this fun?

Thanks Vic that's really helpful. I am a bit of a speed demon... if that's possible when you're running 13 minute miles! LOL! I tend to push myself really hard every time I go out unless I really consciously think not to. I think you've probably hit the nail on the head - after all this is still only my 6th week of running, so I guess I should expect a few aches and pains if I'm working too hard. And yes, it is so much fun!!
